Never Kalum Ditton - 12 days old

We have finally settled on a middle name, Kalum.

We are doing well. We had a bit of a rough start but things are starting to settle down. Nev lost a lot of weight in the first couple of days while he and I were trying to figure out the whole breast feeding thing but we are now on the right track and his weight is coming back up. He also had jaundice levels that were a concern for the Dr. So last Thurs. he and I spent the night in the hospital so he could be kept under a special light. We had a light to take home and keep on him for the weekend and when we returned to the Dr. on Mon. he was much better and we got to stop treatment :) It is sunny here today so Nev and I took a walk and got some sun on him too which is helpful in reducing jaundice.

My mom was here for the first week and was a great help. It was great having her around and watching her bond with her grandson. She was also great emotional support for me! We were sad to see her leave but we know we'll see her soon. We've also had some vistors stop by to see the little guy. We appreciate all the food people have been bringing us. It's amazing how quickly the days get away from us and how tiring it all can be. But we are getting into the routine of it all and it is getting easier. Here are some more pics from the past week. I gave him his first bath at home which I have to say he didn't like at all. Micah took him into the shower with him and he seemed to enjoy that quite a bit and it's a lot easier on us.

On Sunday we went to friends to watch the Steelers game. Nev got towear his steelers shirt that his grandma got him. He looked very cute... too bad the steelers lost:(

Happy Birth Day - Nov. 6, 2009

Never Ditton made his entrance to the world on November 6, 2009 at 6:23 pm. He weighed 7lbs 5 oz and was 19 inches long. With the love and support from Micah and the amazing support of our doula Kama, I spent about 5 hours at the hospital before Nev arrived. It was a tough process but things went well and our son was born alert and healthy. Her are some pics of him during his first feeding shortly after birth, Micah giving him his first bath and just before we left the hospital on Sunday afternoon. We are setteling in at home. It is nice to be in our own bed and not having nurses come in all the time to check on us. Nev is sleeping a lot and seems to be very comfortable and relaxed. He is a very good baby. He loves his skin to skin time on his daddy's chest. I'll try to keep the pictures coming. I'm sure we'll have lots!
And no we still don't have a middle name yet. We're working on it.

Happy Halloween - 38 weeks

Hope everyone had a great Halloween. Micah and I went to a Halloween party and had a lot of fun. Micah dressed up as a priest and wanted me to be a pregnant nun but I couldn't get the costume together. It would have been pretty funny. Instead I was Mother Earth...... Alot of people thought my belly was fake too. I wasn't expecting that.
Sunday marked the begining of my 38th week. Only two more weeks till my due date. I went to the doc today and she said he has dropped some so it is likely I will go into labor in the next two weeks. Kinda scary but I'm excited to meet our little boy!

37 Weeks

Well I am officially full-term! but I still have a few more weeks to go..... Micah and I finished up our child birth class. We took group pictures of the moms and the coaches. We are in order of due date from left to right, with the earliest due date on the left. I really hope this class is helpful for us when the time comes.
We did a belly cast the other night. It was a lot of fun and Micah did a great job on it. It will need some work to clean it up and strengthen it. Then we'll decorate it. I'm hoping to get Stone to paint something on it. I look forward to hanging it on the wall to remember my pregnant body. It's a little weird to think I won't be pregnant anymore in a few weeks. I think I will miss it a bit even though I am starting to get fairly uncomfortable these days. It's a mixed bag of feelings. I've enjoyed being pregnant and felt really good but I am looking forward to having my body back and being able to sleep on my stomach.

33 weeks

I haven't posted in awhile..... Since the last post we had a baby shower. It was a really good time. We played a few silly games which even some of the guys enjoyed, ate some really good food (Micah did an awesome job on smoking the tri-tip) and listened to some good live music by Jake Payne and the Dixie Creek Band. Thanks to everyone who came and for all the great gifts we recieved. A big thanks to Kira who put it all together for us!! I will post some pics from the party as soon as I can.
Micah and I also started attending childbirth classes. We have attended 3 so far and have 2 more to go. They have been fun and informative. I just hope we can remember the stuff when the time actually comes.

Good to be home - 30 weeks

Even though Micah decided to stay in O'ahu for another week to work with a friend, I flew home on friday. It is nice to be home but I was unpleasantly welcomed home by a very sick Cotton. Her kidneys had failed after three years of kidney disease. I took her to the vet immediately and she had to be put to sleep. She will be missed!!

On a lighter note..... We spent the last few days of our trip in O'ahu. We did not do too much there. Mostly relaxed at Brian's house. We did spend one day at Wiamea. We hiked up a beautiful canyon through a garden of tropical plants. We also went swimming in Wiemea Bay and Micah and Brian jumped off the cliffs into the bay. O'ahu is a lot more crowded but the island itself is beautiful, a lot more mountainous than Maui.

Maui - Day 6

Yesterday we went snorkeling and saw some cool fish. We hung out on the beach and got sunburned too. We saw some sea turtles and Micah even got to touch one! We got a cool picture of the turtle as it same straight for Micah. We camped on the beach at a place called Olawalu. There were a lot of people there but it was really quiet. We drove back to Honolua Bay but the surf was pretty small so Micah didn't go in. We went to the only brewery on the island, Maui Brewing Company. The food was great and the beer was OK (says Micah, Jaime had a good virgin drink made by the bartender). We met some cool people at the brewpub. After the first couple of days on the trip, we have only been meeting really nice people. We met a couple in Hana that we keep running into. We went snorkeling with them and we camped at the same place as them. They are from one of the San Juan Islands. One guy we met at the brew pub was a displacee from huricane Katrina. Today we packed up camp and went to South Maui. We went to a nature preserve that is the last lava flow on Maui. We went snorkeling there and it was even more incredible than the day before. We saw even cooler fish and a sea turtle. The reef there was healthier looking and more diverse. Tonight we are staying with our friend Elizabeth and tomorrow we will fly over to Oahu.

Maui - Day 5

Yesterday we drove to the west end of the island along the north coast. This section of road is really narrow and winding. The scenery was beautiful and worth the drive. We drove along the ocean above the cliffs. The water is so amazingly blue. We found a really nice art gallery along the way. We stopped and swam in a rock pool on the coast. The surf crashes right up to the pool and spills in. The pool is probably 8 feet deep and full of tropical fish. It was like swimming in an aquarium. We found some really nice surf at Honolua Bay. There was a ton of people out surfing but there were enough waves for everyone. Micah caught a really nice wave! I watched from the cliffs above and could have gotten a really good picture but the camera battery died :(
We are staying in a really nice guest house called The Guesthouse in Lahina. It's away from the main part of town so it is quiet here. The house is beautiful, the rooms are awesome with a hot tub in the room (one where we can change the temp. so I can get in). The provide a yummy breakfast and full access to the kitchen, laundry, etc. It's a really sweet deal! We are debating staying another night. Today we'll go snorkeling and look for more waves tonight.

Maui - Day 4

Aloha from Maui! We've been in Maui for 4 days. It is beautiful here! We visited our friend Elizabeth the first day, drove the road to Hana on the second day. We camped at a black sand beach which was pretty sweet, then followed the road around the bottom of the island then up to the Volcano the next day. We camped at about 7000 feet last night in the national park. Today we picked up a surf board so we are now off to find Micah some surf and have some chill time on the beach. I'll update with some pics when we get home.

It's a Party!

We're planning a baby shower/BBQ

It will be at our house hosted by my friend Kira on September 19th at 4 p.m.

Invitations should be on their way. We hope you can make it. It won't be a traditional shower and we are inviting everyone, guys and girls. It should be fun and we'll have some good food too!
